Top 10 Uses for Coconut Oil

Did you know that coconut oil is a wonderful substance that no household should be without?  I have been using coconut oil for many years in cooking, skin preparations, dental care and even home maintenance.

Recently I was sent a bottle of Tropical Traditions Gold Label Virgin Organic Coconut Oil and I have to say that before trying this brand I never experienced the fresh pure coconut scent in any other brand other than the Tropical Traditions brand.

Coconut oil is solid in cool temperatures and melts on contact with skin or in warm temperatures.

Tropical Traditions coconut oil smells divine and makes a wonderful moisturizer.  Coconut oil is said to be lubricating, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, anti-fungal and antiviral.

I will post future recipes using Tropical Traditions Coconut oil but for now I want to let you know some of the other wonderful things that I do with coconut oil:

#1. I use pure coconut oil for brushing my teeth.
Yes just coconut oil and nothing else.  Coconut oil is said to heal gum tissue, descale & brighten the teeth, and is naturally antibacterial, deodorizing.  It has helped my receding gums and tooth sensitivity. I keep the coconut oil in a small container and scoop some up on the toothbrush and brush away, I really noticed how well the toothbrush glides and my teeth feel clean and smooth. You can also make a toothpaste with it, check out my recipes HERE.

#2. Skin moisturizer.
Pure organic coconut oil is an extremely moisturizing oil which absorbs quickly into dry skin.  It did wonders for my recent sunburn, minimizing dry skin and peeling and it feels wonderful.

#3. Eye cream.
At night, I apply a small amount of coconut oil under my eyes.
It is said to help reduce puffiness, bags, and wrinkles.

#4. Acne relief.
Coconut oil is a wonderful safe moisturizer for acne sufferers.  Some acne remedies dry the skin, coconut oil does not clog pores, helps kill bacteria and keeps the skin refreshed & moisturized. Coconut oil is said to penetrate the skin and help the body get rid of the impurities, I have read claims of acne improvement in a few weeks with continued application.

#5. Make up remover.
If you wear makeup, the best make-up remover especially for the sensitive eye area is to use an organic cotton swab with coconut oil and gently swipe over the area, your make-up will lift off effortlessly and you will be left soft and moisturized.

#6. Sooth dehydrated, dry sinuses.
Coconut oil is a safe nasal lubricant.  When nasal passages become dry because of cold or dry air you I sooth and lubricate my nostrils with coconut oil. I coat my little finger with coconut oil and insert it inside my nose. This also helps strengthen and protect the capillaries in the nasal passages.  It can be used in place of petroleum jelly for any lubricating purpose.

#8. For your Automobile.
Coconut oil is a lubricant and can be used to lubricate hinges, shine up black plastic and tires and can be added to polish recipes to shine and protect your vehicle.  Just as it is moisturizing for your skin, it also works wonderfully to soften and protect leather.

#9. Remove sticky stuff.
Rubbing coconut oil into glue from labels, gum, candy or any other sticky substance
on a hard surface will help remove it effortlessly.

#10. Just eat it.
Cook with it, bake with it, add it to raw recipes.  There are many ways to get this wonderful healthy oil in to your diet.  Coconut oil is very heat stable so is suited to methods of cooking at high temperatures like frying.  It can be added to raw recipes to add a solid firm texture and can be used as a spread.  Check out the many wonderful free recipes using coconut oil.

Tropical Tradition's premium unrefined virgin coconut oil is hand-made and processed without using any heat, chemicals or solvents. Only the freshest coconuts are used and this is evident in the flavor!

The coconuts are shredded with a wet mill and then cold-pressed using the water from inside the coconut.  The milk is then allowed to sit for about 1/2 day to allow the oil to separate. The oil is then filtered and bottled in glass bottles.

They have learned how to pick out the best coconuts from each harvest that produce the best quality oil, for example. Independent laboratory analysis shows this to be one of the highest quality coconut oils on the market, having the highest levels of antioxidants.

Their oil is USDA certified organic, and produced following GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) making it one of the finest coconut oils on the market.
