Treats For Chickens | Recipe

Here is a simple way to make a nice treat for the chickies
during the long cold winter.
They don't get outside much and they like a warm special treat.

All I do is:

Throw roughly 1 1/2 Cups organic oats in a bowl with 1/2 Cup of finely chopped organic seeds, herbs and sometimes fruit or greens.

Good choices are a mixture of any of the following:

Fruit peels, spinach, lettuce, berries, raisins, cranberries, apples, sunflower seeds, chia seeds, flax, sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds, wild bird seed, oregano, garlic, cayenne, cinnamon, ginger, dandelion, parsley... (just be light on the herbs)

Mix the above ingredients in a mixing bowl with 3/4 of a cup of hot water (I often use water from boiled vegetables)

Roll gently into large balls and roll into some dry oats...

Living in a cold climate our chickens live indoors during the winter months in an insulated heated coop. They each have their own 9 square foot cubby and a large free pen area as well as a fenced yard and a few tractors.

Patrick is molting and has been a little under the weather & Egore recently lost part of a toe after he broke it badly and I had to amputate it, this is why he was lying down. The boys will be 6 years old in March. The girls will be 7 years old in March.
