Beautiful Braided Raisin Bread Recipe


I'm eating too much wheat lately but I couldn't help myself after visiting a friend from Czech, she had these stunning loaves of bread all over her house. 

 I asked her for the recipe and modified it slightly, then made it today. Zuki will be eating most of it but I had a taste this evening and - Oh-My-Gawd!

Here was Zuki's response when I greeted him with the surprise:



For the Recipe:

2 1/2 Cups of organic flour
Pinch of Celtic Salt
2 tbs fresh grated organic ginger (or organic lemon peel zest) 
1/4 cup of organic cane sugar
1/2 cup organic raisins
1/4 cup of water & 1 tsp organic cane sugar
2 organic eggs - 1 egg + 1/2 yolk (reserve the other half yolk & white of 1 egg for an egg wash.


Mix all dry ingredients, beat eggs with a fork then add the milk/butter, eggs & yeast to the dry ingredients at once and knead well.

Let rise for 1 hour, knead again and cut dough into 9 equal parts. 
 Roll out all 9 balls into a 18" long strands.

Gather dough in three sets of 3 strands and make 3 braids. Place two braids together on a floured baking sheet then place the third braid in the center top of the other two braids.

Let rise again for another hour. Preheat the oven at 350 degrees on convection.

Beat the remainder egg white & 1/2 yolk and brush on top. Sprinkle with organic sesame seeds.


Bake for 30 minutes and let cool before cutting.
