Make Your Own Organic Herbal Hairspray

Organic Herbal Hairspray
Many hair styling products on the market today contain toxic synthetic ingredients.
Why not make your own fresh herbal hairspray with garden herbs used for their scent and for lush shiny hair. This would make a nice gift as well.

My Basic Hairspray recipe:
½ Cup organic herbal tea (choose from a list of herbs below and create your own blend)
2 tbs Organic Cane sugar
2 tbs Organic Vodka
5 drops of your favorite organic essential oil (optional) orange, peppermint or cinnamon will help deter flies for a great “gardeners” hairspray.
Boil the steeped tea and sugar together until the sugar is completely dissolved.
Let cool and stir in the vodka and essential oils.
Put in a quality spray bottle.
Keeps for about 2 to 3 months.

Herbs for hair:
Rosemary smells lovely and is great for brown hair. It is also said to help hair remain curled even in damp weather and may help combat dandruff.
Garden Sage helps darken hair and gently cover grey.
Chamomile will help highlight hair and soften blonde hair and also helps with itchiness.
Mullein as well as marigold will add yellow hues to the hair.
Horsetail is a good source of silica. Silica helps to keep hair strong and looking shiny and sleek.
Stinging-nettle may help combat dandruff.
Marshmallow and burdock are good for dry hair.
Rose petals, lavender and lilacs can add a nice natural scent.
Pour ½ cup of boiling water over a few tablespoons of freshly chopped herbs. Allow it to steep until cold and use this tea in the recipe above.

  1. Ooooh, I like this recipe! I've been using one with water and oranges, but I think I'd like to try this. Thanks :)
